Andre’s words reflect how much our modern society glorifies the exhibition of The Penis, how much we worship it

Unmistakably the perspective of a homosexual man. Straight men do not see their penises this way. They are brought up to be ashamed of them and to perceive them as a dangerous weapon that could hurt someone. Gay boys are too but they get over it when they move out of their mothers’ houses and come to realise that women can’t manipulate them without their consent.

Young straight men on the other hand have all kinds of anxiety and hang-ups around their male members and society absolutely does not glorify the exhibition of them. In fact in some states in the USA being able to see the outline of a penis through clothing, having an involuntary erection in public even with your clothes on are both acts which can result in criminal conviction. The majority of males in the USA have suffered non-consensual genital mutilation, a practice popularised in the 19th Century as a way to prevent masturbation and to dull the pleasure of sex. Doesn’t sound very glorified to me.

Check the sports section in any newspaper and notice the photos are always carefully selected to not reveal the outline of any sportsman’s tackle (yes I’ve been checking, disappointedly) even though a photographer’s reel will be full of all manner of balls and bulges. Most men opt to wear uncomfortable tight-fitting underwear to minimise their profile, whereas freeballing is a rebellious act done only by uncivilised chavs. Male characters in videogames full of war and violence have the most flat-fronted trousers you’ve ever seen. Apparently a slight bulge in a pair of combats is more shocking to society than death.

A penis made of snow on a university campus is interpreted as a symbol of misogynistic violence and results in its creators being suspended from school. Meanwhile the vagina cookies on sale at the nearby gender studies bake sale, during a recital of the Vagina Monologues, are not only permitted but lauded.

Society doesn’t glorify penises, it castrates them. Only a homosexual, who eschews prudish traditionalism, who is free from women’s judgment, who is given a free pass by gender idealogues in exchange for subservience, and who surrounds himself in a homoerotic bubble, could think otherwise.

Unless you’re one of those people who thinks that every skyscraper is a phallus, raping the sky; in which case, you’re probably a feminist, and you should ask yourself honestly: what would your reaction to this piece be if it were made by straight men?
